The VIII Festival of Folk Arts will be held between 21 and 24 August 2014. This year’s edition shall be graced by teams from Bielarus, the Czech Republic, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Turkey and Italy, as well as the Folk Dance Group of the Poznań University of Technology “Poligrodzianie” and the Song and Dance Ensemble “Konin.”
FSL (Festival of Folk Arts) is a unique project that combines tradition and folklore with a contemporary approach to art, presenting original events that draw inspiration from folk culture. For a couple of days in August, residents of Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) shall participate in concerts, during which folk groups from all over the world will perform. The Festival of Folk Arts is the only project on the subject of tradition that so strongly encourages the audience to actively participate. Besides stage presentations, vocal, music and instrument, dance and film screening workshops, cultural events with a jam session and dance games are held.
In 2011, the Festival was awarded a “Diploma of Excellence” by the European Folk Culture Organization, and in 2012 UNESCO assumed patronage over the Festival.
The project is supported by the Office of the Marshal of Wielkopolska Province, City of Gniezno and the District Starost Office in Poznan.
