On 8-12 September Poznań University of Technology hosted the first in Poland ICHVE 2014 – International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application.
The conference in Poznań was the fourth edition of ICHVE. For the first time in history the conference has been organised by a Polish university – Poznań University of Technology. The first edition of ICHVE took place in Chongqing, China in 2008. The following editions were held in New Orleans (USA) in 2010, and in Shanghai, China, in 2012.
The conference assembles world-class scientists who work on high voltage engineering. It is an excellent platform for exchange of information and experience on energetics and high voltages, and an opportunity to present the latest accomplishments in this field. During the five-day conference the following issues have been discussed: the latest solutions for electricity production, transmission of electricity via cable and overhead power lines, and distribution of energy; devices that consume electricity; electricity consumption in cities (everyday consumption by individual consumers); the impact of electrical devices on the environment (presentation of the latest research studies that attempt to answer the question: how safe are we in the vicinity of a high-voltage transmission line?).
The conference was attended by around 200 scientists from 31 countries – in this respect the conference held in Poznań is the largest among the former ones (previous editions assembled 120-150 participants). 1/3 of the guests came from China. There were also specialists from Poland, Europe, Asia, United States, Canada, South America. There were also representatives of companies operating in the energy industry.
The honorary patronage over ICHVE 2014 was taken by: Rector of Poznań University of Technology, Voivode of Greater Poland, Marshal of Greater Poland Voivodeship and the Mayor of the City of Poznań.
The event was co-organised by Mississippi State University (USA) and Chongqing University (China).
